Cameron McGeehan was delighted to get off the mark for the Iron following his arrival on loan from Barnsley in January.
The 23-year-old scored a crucial goal in the play-off semi final first leg to draw the Iron level against Rotherham in the dying embers of the match, making it 2-2 and setting up an exciting second leg on Wednesday.
After the match, McGeehan provided his reaction to iFollow Iron.
ON HIS FIRST GOAL FOR THE CLUB...
CM: It was a long time coming, I thought that I would score a few more goals during my time here but the timing of it couldn’t have been any better so I’m absolutely delighted. I’ve put a lot of pressure on myself to come here, do well and score goals and it hasn’t quite happened. However, the timing of it now, it’s great!
ON THE IMPORTANCE OF THE GOAL...
CM: It’s massive! I’ve come here to play, to do well and kickstart my career after my injury so it’s massive for me personally but more importantly, the team go to Rotherham in a stronger position than we were at the time. I score a lot of those types of goals, I’ve got a knack of getting in the right place at the right time. The timing is great and hopefully I can get another goal in the next game. We are in the tie and have to go to Rotherham and win that match, plus our away form has been good so we are looking forward to it.
ON THE PLAYERS' SUPPORT IN THE CHANGING ROOM...
CM: It’s amazing! It’s been a very closeknit group and it’s been easy to bed myself in with the boys. The lads here are top class and ivery supportive. I’ve been working hard and I was really happy that all the boys were delighted for me when I scored, they’ve been really supportive of me so it’s been good.
ON THE TASK OF FACING ROTHERHAM...
CM: They did well, I’ve not actually seen them this season because I missed the last game through illness but they are a tough team with a good manager, allowing them to play the football the way they do. They are a solid side and very hard to play against so it’s going to be a tough game going there. Watching from the side, it’s good to be able to pick out holes and where you think you can come on and do well.
ON CELEBRATING WITH THE FANS...
CM: It’s been a bit disappointing for me not being fully fit or fully firing, so it’s nice to be able to give something back. I’ve been here a little while now and a lot of my appearances have been from the bench, I’ve just been doing my best and I’m delighted for the club because it’s potentially such a big goal for us.
