The Nottingham Forest loanee spent the end of last season with Salop and expects a tough challenge, but one Scunthorpe are capable of rising to.

Speaking to iFollow Iron, Yates reflected on last weekend’s draw at Wigan and mentioned how he thought an Iron win was just around the corner.

ON THE TEAM’S SPIRIT DURING THE WIGAN GAME…
RY:
I was really impressed. When you concede two goals like we did so early on in the game, you think ‘it is going to be an uphill task’, but we dug in and it just shows the togetherness we have to come back again and take the lead. We were disappointed to not finish the job off.

ON HITTING THE CROSSBAR…
RY:
It was a fantastic ball in and I was a little bit disappointed I didn’t finish it off, but luckily we did score from it. He (Ivan Toney) smashed it in and I was buzzing.

ON WHAT TO EXPECT FROM SHREWSBURY…
RY:
They are a really good team. I was there for the second half of last season, so I know what they are about. They’ve got a really good manager and will be well organised. Like any other game in this league, it is going to be really tough. We have got to focus on ourselves and try and get three points. Being with them last year, I know that they are a really solid, organised team and that’s how Paul Hurst sets his teams up. We survived last year with a really good defence and building from a solid back four. It doesn’t really surprise me how well they are doing this year.

ON THE CONFIDENCE IN THE SIDE…
RY:
We are still positive because I don’t think we have played badly in these games. You could say you make your own luck and we have been a bit unlucky. We have got to keep focussing on ourselves and we need the win on Saturday. We have got to keep performing how we are and the win is going to come very soon. The boys are still really confident.

ON SETTLING IN AT THE IRON…
RY:
It has been a little bit of step-up. In that first game against Peterborough, it did catch me in the first 15 minutes and the ball went past me a bit quickly. It depends what team you are playing against. Peterborough was quite an open and expansive game – I didn’t really get that exposure in League Two. We play a different style of football to when I was at Notts County, so I am really enjoying it.

ON HOW MUCH HE IS LEARNING…
RY:
There are plenty of midfielders here who are all different. Funso (Ojo) is cultured and I am learning from him every game. Neal Bishop is experienced and Cameron McGeehan has goalscoring abilities. It is really good and I am feeding off them in training. I just want to improve.
