The Iron’s Under-18 side drew 2-2 away at their Burton Albion counterparts on Tuesd afternoon.

Scunthorpe went ahead thanks to Kane Bartholomew’s set-piece goal which made it two goals in two games for the youngster.

United continued to play strongly but it was Burton who bagged the next goal of the game.

However, despite this, the Iron didn’t stop. They kept their heads up and fought to go ahead again and were rewarded as Louis Collins latched onto an impressive ball from George Hornshaw. The midfielder played a great throughball into the path of Collins who was calm and composed as he picked his spot and placed the ball into the corner.

Burton levelled just before the break and the second-half provided end-to-end football, but that winning goal proved to be elusive to both teams.

Both teams played some impressive football but the focus this week in training has been on how the boys react to results going against them.

After conceding, rather than backing off and inviting pressure the youngsters met everything head-on, coped with everything thrown at them and that left their coaches very impressed.

There were plenty of opportunities to learn for the young players, who are next in action when they host Rotherham United on Saturday (11am kick-off).

IRON: Kelsey, Harrison, Bartholomew, Hornshaw, Lilley (Colclough, 55), Morfoot, Allasan, Pugh, Collins, Kalu (Ablett, 20), Train (Busby, 80).
