Josh Morris’ second-half equaliser against Gillingham wasn't enough to earn the Iron a point as two further strikes from the visitors saw them take all three points. Despite defeat, however, United remain fourth going into Tuesday's encounter.

Meanwhile, Doncaster, who are managed by Darren Ferguson, came from two goals down to draw 2-2 away at Shrewsbury Town.

Matt Gilks will miss the match with a calf injury, but Alexander is hopeful that the goalkeeper could return to action soon.

Meanwhile, new loanee Ryan Yates has returned to the Iron following a finger operation that has kept him out of the last two games. Alexander confirmed he will again miss out, but is likely to return to full training ahead of United's next league game.

Luke Williams continues to train following a long-term hamstring lay-off, while Sam Mantom continues to be back on the grass with the medical team following a groin injury, but is yet to return to full training.

Long-term absentees Jordan Clarke (hamstring) and Jonathon Margetts (knee) are still a while away from returning, while Andrew Crofts trained on Monday for the first time following an ankle injury.

Elsewhere, Levi Sutton also returned to training on Monday following illness last week, while striker Kyle Wootton has suffered a recurrence of a hamstring injury suffered while on loan at Stevenage.

Former Scunthorpe loanee Tommy Rowe was the star man the last time the two sides met in the FA Cup back in December.

He made 14 appearances, netting once, during his three month stint at Glanford Park in 2015-16 and has so far scored six goals in 34 appearances for Doncaster so far this season - including a brace against the Iron in that cup match - incidentally the last time he netted for the side.
