The Barnsley midfielder joined on loan until the end of the season and Alexander told iFollow Iron that he was impressed with the pedigree of the player, as well as his attitude.
ON STRENGTHENING IN CENTRAL MIDFIELD…
GA: Like I’ve said previously, we need to strengthen certain departments and central midfield is an area where we’ve only used two players so far this season in general and we need to strengthen that. We’ve looked at the type of player we feel will help up improve and add something to the squad, and we feel Cameron can do that. He’s a young player who’s had a fantastic start to his career. Unfortunately, he got injured at around this time last year but still made the move to Barnsley in the Championship. He’s played a few games this season but found his way blocked there so he was available on loan, and we’re delighted to get him on board. He’s a young, hungry footballer desperate to get out there and play games again.
ON THE PLAYER…
GA: He’s someone I looked at when I was manager at my previous club and he was coming out of Norwich, but he obviously went to Luton and did great things, scoring a lot of goals from midfield in a good team and got his move to a Championship club. We know there’s a very good player there, but he’s just been unfortunate with the injury he had this time last year. He’s a hungry player who wants to re-establish himself and get game time but he knows, the same as every player in our squad, that he has to compete with the other players to get in that team. If he fulfils that potential, then he has a great chance of doing that.
ON MEETING HIM…
GA: I spoke to him on Wednesday and he was so keen and positive. He already knew who we had in our next fixture and so forth, and was trying to get here for training on Thursday, which was great but there was obviously a lot of red tape to get through. He trained with Barnsley that morning in the end, and then came over and signed on Thursday afternoon. He’s a hungry lad who will find a good, competitive group of players who are winning a lot of games at the moment and hopefully he’ll help us continue to do that.
