The midfielder found the back of the net from close range during the second half to peg the hosts back for the second time, after Ivan Toney’s earlier strike.

Speaking to iFollow Iron, Yates spoke about his goal, the draw and commented on how he has settled in at Scunthorpe.

ON SCORING ON HIS FIRST START FOR THE IRON…
RY: On a personal note, I am absolutely delighted to get a goal and help the team. Me and Conor (Townsend) spoke at half-time, because he and Josh (Morris) were linking up quite well down that left-hand side, so I said ‘if you get to the byline, I will be breaking into the box and making that third man run’. Luckily, he found me perfectly and I did the business.

ON THE 2-2 DRAW…
RY: We started a bit slow as a team and on a personal note, I gave the ball away a couple of times maybe because of the transition from League Two to League One. I thought we grew into the game as a team and maybe deserved the three points.

ON STILL TAKING THE RESULT AS A POSITIVE…
RY: After the start and going one-nil down inside two minutes, we would have probably taken a draw at the end of the game. If we want to get automatic promotion, we need to be getting the three points more often than not. It is a tough place to come to, they have got some really good players and have an attacking threat, so we will take the point.

ON HOW HE LIKES TO PLAY…
RY: At the right time, I like to break into the box. It is important as a midfielder to chip in with goals. My aim is to get ten (overall) this season, so hopefully I can kick on from here and get a few more.

ON HIS TIME AT SCUNTHORPE SO FAR…
RY: I have loved it. The lads have been really welcoming. I am really enjoying my time and I just want to get on the pitch as much as I can. I want to learn from all of the quality players. Cameron (McGeehan) is a goalscoring midfielder so I am picking bits up from him, Funso (Ojo) is cultured and (Neal) Bishop does everything right all of the time. I am learning.

ON PLAYING IN LEAGUE ONE…
RY: I have only started one game, but Tuesday was a lot different compared to my time at Notts County. The style of play, giving angles constantly and I found it a little bit faster. I think you have got to be constantly checking your shoulders.

ON NORTHAMPTON THIS WEEKEND…
RY: It is a massive game. If we are going to be promotion contenders, we need to be getting three points at home on a regular basis. I am really looking forward to it.
