Matt Gilks has said that he hopes the squad can reward the Iron fans with a win against Peterborough on Tuesday.

Despite a late fightback, United lost 2-1 to Rotherham on Saturday but Gilks is hopeful of bouncing back quickly against the Posh in Tuesday’s League One clash.

Gilks discussed the fans, the result and Luke Williams' return from injury in an interview with iFollow Iron.

ON THE IRON’S SUPPORT DURING THE GAME…
MG: We’re obviously disappointed for them. They turned out in their numbers and fair play to Rotherham too who filled the away end. It was a great atmosphere here and hopefully we can reward them with a victory next time.

ON THE RESULT…
MG: I thought we were the better team in that game. However, they took their chances. I thought that we probably should have had a penalty in the first-half. I was a long way away but even from where I was, I felt that we should have had one. I don’t think you can fault our endeavour, character and desire. I thought that we battled hard.

ON CONTINUING TO FIGHT UNTIL THE FINAL WHISTLE…
MG: I think we have that never say die attitude where we never give up. That’s what it takes at this level in this league. You’ve got to be battling for that full 90+ minutes. We’re bitterly disappointed but we have another game on Tuesday and we have to go again.

ON THE IMPORTANCE OF HAVING AN OPPORTUNITY TO BOUNCE BACK SO SOON AFTER THE DEFEAT…
MG: No-one likes getting beat but we’ve put everything into that game. It’s like a double blow to us in that way. We need to be nice and bright, ready for a tough game away at Peterborough. I think the chances will come. We just need to keep doing what we do. We’re working hard and I’m sure that the result will come. Hopefully, on Tuesday night it will do.

ON WHAT IT WOULD MEAN TO BEAT PETERBOROUGH...
MG: We love every win but they’re especially good away from home against a play-off rival who are doing well. It’s going to be a tough game on a cold Tuesday night, I’ve got no doubt about that. We have to be up for it. I’m sure we will be.

ON LUKE WILLIAMS MAKING HIS RETURN FROM INJURY…
MG: I just shook his hand on the way out and said that I was glad to see him back. He’s been out injured since I arrived at the club. Hopefully now he can kick on even more and go from getting back from his injury to being in the team and putting performances in. We know what a quality player he is.
