Flag bearing experience for children of British Steel employees

16 February 2018

Last Saturday, it was children of employees of British Steel who were able to flag bear the Iron and Rotherham United onto the Glanford Park pitch.

In celebration of the British Steel Family Day 2018, the Iron took a diversion from the normal local Grassroots team and instead welcomed nine children of whom a family member is employed by British Steel, randomly selected by the club's partners.

Along with flag bearers, one of the mascots was also a child of a British Steel employee, while the Iron wore a special edition kit for the visit of the Millers. A #ManofSteel man of the match award was also presented to Duane Holmes, by apprentice Lee Barnard, who designed the award.

£533 was also raised from their bucket collection on the day, with proceeds going to their chosen charity partners Lindsey Lodge Hospice.

The flag bearers on the day welcomed both teams onto the pitch, taking advantage of the British Steel employee prices for the day, before enjoying the encounter against Rovers from the Family Area of the SPB Stand.

We now have no availability remaining for flag bearing in the 2017-18 campaign. If you'd like to register your interest to get your Grassroots side involved in future, please email james.moody@scunthorpe-united.co.uk.
