The Iron are back in action on Saturday as they take on another promotion chasing side, with Gillingham visiting Glanford Park. Nick Daws’ side took on Walsall in midweek and picked up a point in a 0-0 draw, a result that moved the hosts above Gillingham.

This was thanks to the Gills losing their third straight game in midweek as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at Fleetwood.

Despite their current run, Gillingham have enjoyed a successful season so far and find themselves in promotion contention.

They have assembled a young squad that has caught the eye this season, in particular midfielder Bradley Dack, who is the club’s top scorer.

United will hope that Jordan Clarke and Luke Williams will be available for the clash against Gillingham.

Clarke came off at Walsall in midweek with a gashed leg respectively, so will hope to be involved.

Meanwhile, Luke Williams has missed the last few games with injury, but has been back in training and could return to the squad against the Gills.

Greg Luer will miss out though as he suffered a gashed leg in the draw at Walsall.

Gillingham will hope Rory Donnelly’s goals can help them return to winning ways, with the absence of top scorer Bradley Dack.

Dack has been at the heart of the Gills’ good play this season and has contributed 15 goals, but a hamstring injury rules him out, leaving the goal scoring burden on Donnelly.

Donnelly started his career in his homeland at Cliftonville, enjoying a prolific couple of seasons that led to a host of Premier League clubs becoming interested in him.

The 23-year-old moved to Swansea in January 2012, joining for an undisclosed fee, although his spell in South Wales was not successful.

Donnelly found games hard to come by so went on loan to Tranmere in search of regular football, and enjoyed a decent spell.

He was released by Swansea in May 2015 and joined Gillingham in the summer, where he has worked his way into the team, becoming an important part of their squad.

The Iron produced a first half comeback to win 2-1 when Gillingham visited Glanford Park last season.

Luke Norris got the visitors off to a great start, opening the scorer after just two minutes, but the Iron soon hit back.

They were level after 11 minutes, with Hakeeb Adelakun finishing on the turn to get United back on terms with the Gills.

Gary McSheffrey soon added to that to give United all three points, taking in Paddy Madden’s pass before finishing well.

The game was halted due to a torrential patch of rain that caused the pitch to get waterlogged, but the game eventually carried on.
