Morris: It's great to be back, every player hates being out

22 August 2018

Midfielder Josh Morris feels as though he’s edging closer to full fitness following an injury which kept him out of match action throughout pre-season.

The 26-year-old had continued a large volume of fitness work throughout his spell on the sidelines but only returned to the team for the Carabao Cup clash against Doncaster Rovers eight days ago, retaining his place at the Stadium of Light.

Speaking to iFollow Iron about his match minutes and fitness, he said: “It’s great to be back. Every player hates being out.

“It was a niggle really, which started off early in pre-season. It seemed to be okay, but when I started again, it came back. It’s good to get it sorted. I’ve worked really hard with the physios and it’s nice to be back.

“I’m not too far off to be honest (in terms of fitness). The sharpness is there and I’ve completed two lots of 75 minutes, so game-by-game that’ll hopefully get better.”

Morris' former club Fleetwood Town are next on the agenda for the Iron at Glanford Park on Wednesday night, with the midfielder expecting another tough encounter.

“They’ve not had a bad start,” he continued.

“It’ll be a tough game again, but one we’re looking forward to and it’ll be good to be back on home ground.

“We’re disappointed with what happened on Sunday, but this is an opportunity to come back home and make sure we put on a better performance and hopefully get a result. I think we all know what we need to do to improve, so now all we can do is look forward to the game.”
