Lund: We showed character

10 August 2018

After taking part in his first full week of training at the club, midfielder Matthew Lund is looking forward to the Iron’s opening home match against Walsall on Saturday.

The new signing came off the bench against Coventry City last weekend to help the side come from behind to win 2-1.

Speaking to iFollow Iron about how he has settled in at Glanford Park, Lund said: “I am really enjoying it and I have had a few days' training now.”

“The game last Saturday was tough for me because I didn’t know many of the lads, but it was good to get the victory in and get off to a good start.”

United were 1-0 down when the 27-year-old was brought on for his debut and he made a big impact to turn the game around when he made an important tackle to set up an Iron counter-attack for the equaliser.

He said: “It was good to make the tackle and it was nice for Stevie (Stephen Humphrys) to be played through and get the goal.

“I think we did really well to come back from being behind. We showed some character, which was really good to see.”

The midfielder could start his first game for the Iron this Saturday when Walsall are the visitors.

“It would be nice to start, but we have got to turn up and be competitive, work hard as a team and do the things that we have worked on in training this week to get three points again,” explained Lund.

He was also impressed with the support shown from the Iron fans when 772 made the trip to the Ricoh Arena last weekend.

He added: “It was brilliant support and hopefully it will be the same again on Saturday at home.”
