With five League One games remaining, United are just one point behind the Addicks, who are in the last play-off spot.
Yates spoke to iFollow Iron about the fixture and looked back on last weekend’s match.
ON THE DRAW AT AFC WIMBLEDON…
RY: We were obviously delighted to get the equaliser but we just could not find that second goal. It was a little bit lacklustre I thought, especially after the Oxford game where we were brilliant. Their striker (Lyle Taylor) was a handful all game and we could not get to grips with that. They ended up getting an earlier goal, which was a little bit sloppy from our point of view. It was a bit stop-start. They were very direct and we couldn’t get the ball down and impose our style of play. A draw was probably a fair result.
ON THE CHARLTON MATCH…
RY: It is a massive game. They slipped up in midweek and if we can win on Saturday, it allows us to go above them in the play-offs hopefully. For me personally, that result has given me a bit more confidence because it showed that Wimbledon are a good team and we probably did well to get a point. If we want to get into the play-offs we need to be winning games against whoever we are playing.
ON THE RUN IN…
RY: I think it is going to come. We keep saying that because we are playing well and creating chances. We haven’t had a game in a while where we have not scored a goal. We have just got to keep going.
ON PLAYING ALONGSIDE NEAL BISHOP…
RY: He is a brilliant player. He is different to Funso (Ojo) and is extremely experienced. He knows what he is good at and he does the basics fantastically well. I am learning from him all of the time.
