Toney: I'm sure we'll do what we need to do

29 April 2018

Striker Ivan Toney dedicated his goal during the Iron’s 2-0 win against MK Dons to his grandmother.

He headed home a Josh Morris cross in the first-half to make that seven goals in 12 games, as United gear up for the final two games of the regular season at home to Plymouth Argyle (Tuesday) and Bradford City (Saturday).

A win on Tuesday evening would seal a spot in the play-offs for United, and Toney told iFollow Iron confidence is high following the third win in succession.

ON THE 2-0 VICTORY…
IT: I think we deserved the win. The boys played well and it puts us in a good position on Tuesday. They played some decent football, but they were not hurting us in the key areas. We managed to get the two goals and we sat back, but it took us over the line.

ON THE IMPORTANCE OF THE RESULT…
IT: It was very important. We concentrate on ourselves and if we win Tuesday, it takes us over the line.

ON THREE CLEAN SHEETS IN A ROW…
IT: The defending starts from the front! All of the lads are playing great. The back five are playing well and keeping the clean sheets that they fully deserve. The defenders want to be keeping clean sheets and the attacking players want to be scoring goals. Rory (McArdle) popped up with one on Saturday and that just shows everyone is contributing.

ON SCORING HIS SEVENTH GOAL FOR THE IRON THIS SEASON…
IT: It was a tough week last week losing my grandma during the week. I wanted to score for her last week, but it didn’t quite happen. I managed to do it today for her. Josh (Morris) puts it into the areas where the strikers want it and it's a case of being in the right place at the right time. I managed to do that on Saturday and get on the end of it. I want to be scoring home and away, but I am quite confident going into Tuesday’s game.

ON TUESDAY’S GAME AGAINST PLYMOUTH…
IT: The lads play great under pressure. Myself, I don’t really feel pressure. I am sure we will do what we need to do come Tuesday. We want to keep the momentum, take one step at the time and get the win we need.
