It wasn’t just any goal either, as the 29-year-old United striker connected with Duane Holmes’ cross to level the scoreline and earn a point for the Iron.
It finished 1-1 in the Iron’s away clash with AFC Wimbledon, and Novak is now hoping that he can continue his form off the bench in order to challenge for a first-team place.
He discussed this, the Wimbledon match and the upcoming game against his former club Charlton Athletic in an interview with iFollow Iron.
ON HOW IT FEELS TO BE BACK…
LN: It feels good. I got a bit of a run out last week which was unexpected to be honest. To be able to get on the pitch and contribute to getting a positive result after being 1-0 down is great.
ON HAVING SUCH A POSITIVE IMPACT OFF THE BENCH…
LN: That’s what Nick (Daws) and Andy (Dawson) said. They told me to get a goal and luckily enough the ball came to me and I put it in. It was a great ball in by Duane (Holmes) as well.
ON WANTING TO STAKE HIS CLAIM FOR A FIRST-TEAM PLACE…
LN: I want to get back in the team but I’m not stupid. Ivan (Toney) has been playing brilliantly and Hopps (Tom Hopper) has too. I have been out for a few months so it’s been difficult. If I can contribute with little bits when I come on, and show Nick and Andy what I can do, then I will be pleased if I can get back into the team.
ON HOW THE RECOVERY PROCESS HAS BEEN…
LN: It has been long, boring and lonely at times when you’re in the gym on your own watching the lads go out. However, that’s just a part of football. These things happen and I’m just glad to be fit now.
ON THE POSITIVES TO TAKE FROM THE AFC WIMBLEDON GAME…
LN: That we have got a point. They scored early and I think that they were the better team. In the first-half we slowly grew into the game and luckily for us, we got a point. It’s better than nothing and I have just heard the results elsewhere which seem to be going our way. That’s another positive.
ON WHAT CHANGED AT HALF-TIME…
LN: We just tightened up and started to play our game plan which we had worked on all week. In the second-half, all of the lads were being brave on the ball and creating more chances as well.
ON HOW MUCH A WIN AGAINST HIS FORMER CLUB CHARLTON ATHLETIC WOULD MEAN THIS WEEKEND…
LN: It would be massive. It doesn’t really bother me who we play against. If it is against Charlton and we win I will be happy. However, I’m not really fussed that it’s my old team. I’ll still just be happy if we win.
