The 24-year-old is also happy United managed to bounce back with a win in their last game against Doncaster and feels the performance level remains high, despite losing to Blackburn.

He spoke to iFollow Iron ahead of the Sky Bet League One clash against Pompey on Saturday.

ON THE FEELING IN THE SQUAD…
CT: It’s good. It was nice to get a derby win on the back of our first defeat. We came back and got a win in a big game like that, which sets us up nicely for the next three games. It’s nice to win matches, but for the fans there is a little bit more on the derby games. There was very good support at the game and we nearly took 2,000. We felt it was a good atmosphere and it was a good win. The Blackburn defeat was disappointing because we were the better team and didn’t manage to win. We’ve played a lot worse and won games in the past, so we just had to carry over the performance and not try to worry about the result.

"We know it’s going to be a tough game, but if we play how we know we can, hopefully we can get the win."

ON THE PORTSMOUTH GAME…
CT: They’re a massive club. They were in the Premier League not too long ago. They’ve had a bit of bad luck, and ended up where they are, but they had a good win at the weekend as well. We know it’s going to be a tough game, but if we play how we know we can, hopefully we can get the win.

ON THEIR SQUAD…
CT: They’ve got a few young lads in the team who have come through and done well. With a team like Portsmouth, they are going to be well supported and they will make it a tough game. We’ve got to be at the races come Saturday.

ON BEING STRONG AT THE BACK…
CT: We work hard during the week on our shape as a back five with Matt Gilks and the midfield as well. We look like a team that are difficult to break down and as defenders that’s what you want. If we can keep getting clean sheets, then we only need one goal to win the game. Whereas last season, we needed two or three at times, so hopefully we can keep that going.

ON LEE NOVAK TAKING HIS CHANCE…
CT: Lee Novak has come in and showed everyone what a great player he is, especially against Doncaster, and I thought he was the best player on the pitch. He took his chance well and his general play was good. I think he will be looking to build on that. If we can keep getting clean sheets, then it eases the pressure on the attacking players.
