OTD: September 22

22 September 2017

Remembering past matches played by the Iron on September 22...

The Iron stretched their unbeaten run to four games with a hard-earned victory against lowly Colchester in 2012.

Scunthorpe were indebted to keeper Sam Slocombe for two fine saves from Gavin Massey and Clinton Morrison.

The only goal of the game came from Leon Clarke's penalty after he had been brought down in the box by Matt Heath.

It was Clarke's fourth goal in successive games since joining them on loan from Charlton and left Colchester without a win in eight games.

Prior to that Scunthorpe put on a good show against Manchester United in the League Cup, taking the lead via Josh Wright and netting the last goal of the game, with Martyn Woolford sweeping home.

Overall playing record for September 22: Played 16, Won 5, Drawn 4, Lost 7, Scored 18, Conceded 26.
