Lee Novak headed the winner into the net during Sunday’s 1-0 victory at Doncaster Rovers.
It was only the striker’s second start since joining the club on transfer deadline day and he made it count.
However, it was the players around him that he heaped praise upon in an interview with iFollow Iron after the win at the Keepmoat Stadium.
The 28-year-old also spoke about how much of an impact the travelling fans had on the derby win.
ON OPENING HIS SCUNTHORPE UNITED ACCOUNT…
LN: I wanted to get off the mark as quickly as I can. I’ve come close in the past two games when I’ve come on and I’m just glad to get that first goal.
ON HIS CONFIDENCE THAT THE GOAL WOULD COME…
LN: When I did the press on Tuesday I said that I was confident that the goal was coming and I would have been worried if I wasn’t scoring by now. I’ve been getting chances and I scored for Charlton already this season so I knew that it was only around the corner.
"I thought we were the better team from the first whistle, despite them having a good spell in the second-half. However, we made the most of our attacks."
ON BOUNCING BACK FROM THE BLACKBURN DEFEAT…
LN: It’s huge. You saw on Sunday how the fans came out in their numbers for the derby game. I thought we were the better team from the first whistle, despite them having a good spell in the second-half. However, we made the most of our attacks.
ON THE TRAVELLING FANS…
LN: They were brilliant, even in the warm-up. They sang all game and it’s been brilliant to have them there to watch.
ON CEMENTING HIS FIRST-TEAM SPOT…
LN: I hope that I’ve done enough so far. The gaffer has trusted me to go in the first-team squad and we’ve got four great strikers here. Therefore, we know that whoever is playing, they have to put in a performance. Otherwise, someone else is going to come on. I’m confident that I will score goals and hopefully I’ll keep scoring and we’ll keep getting those wins.
ON THE PORTSMOUTH GAME NEXT WEEKEND…
LN: Even though we got beaten on Tuesday no-one lost any confidence because during the first-half we were the better team and played some good football. We created a few chances but for some reason it didn’t happen and we lost. Despite that, we came today and I think that you could see that no-one was lacking confidence by the performance that we put on.
ON THE QUALITY AROUND HIM…
LN: From day one I saw the depth and quality in the squad. That’s one of the reasons that I wanted to come here. I spoke to the manager about their plans and the squad, and I thought that it was brilliant.
ON THE SERVICE HE’S GETTING…
LN: You can see the chances that we are creating. I have come close and I nearly scored on my debut with my first touch. In all of my games I’ve come close and I’m just happy that on Sunday I got on the end of one of Morris’ crosses.
