However, the 22-year-old admitted that his goal wasn’t the tidiest of finishes, after doubling the Iron’s lead during the first-half.

Speaking to www.scunthorpe-united.co.uk, Holmes talked about netting his fourth of the season in all competitions, the overall performance and how he is feeling after a run in the starting eleven.

ON THE 2-0 WIN…
DH: I thought we were very solid and everyone worked hard from the front backwards to make it hard for them, which we always try and do at home. I feel like it was a good strong performance. I feel at times this season we’ve not been scoring when we’ve really been on top in a game. The goals came at a good time today and I don’t think they ever looked like bothering us. We’re always confident we’re going to score.

ON HIS GOAL…
DH: It was quite scruffy, to be honest. It dribbled off the end of my toe, but they all count and obviously I’m very happy. I just want to get my next goal as quick as I can. Any player will tell you that there is no better feeling than scoring a goal.

ON THE DEFENCE…
DH: I think that is testament to the back four, who looked solid all of the time. Lewis Butroid came in and I thought he was outstanding and I don’t think Matt Gilks was troubled, and that’s testament to the back four again.

ON BEING IN THE STARTING XI…

DH: I feel like I am getting fitter every game. It is just about putting performances together, back to back, and the fitter I get the more chance I’ve got to do that. That can only come with game time. It is all about working as hard as you can every day and then going out on a Saturday and doing it. That’s what I’m trying to do. Hopefully I can keep my place.

ON TUESDAY’S GAME VERSUS GILLINGHAM…
DH: It is a long journey, but we know we’ve started the season really well and we’re all really confident.
