The 25-year-old, who picked up an injury in United’s Carabao Cup match against Notts County back in August, is happy to be back playing, but was even more pleased with the team’s result.

He spoke to iFollow Iron after the game, reflecting on the 90 minutes and praising the travelling fans.

ON THE 1-0 VICTORY AGAINST DONCASTER…
JC: I feel like we did really well in all aspects of the game. We defended well and went forward well, especially in the first-half and got the early goal. We soaked up their pressure and we never once felt like they were going to score. I felt really solid and Matt Gilks didn't have a lot to do, which is testament to our all-round defensive game. They chucked their centre-halves up to make an extra forward towards the end. I feel as though we dealt with it really well. We were strong, solid and put our bodies on the line.

ON MAKING HIS RETURN TO THE STARTING XI...
JC: I feel really good and I’m really pleased to play the whole game. I felt I was solid and my distribution was good. I’m really pleased with the result. It was frustrating for me not playing, but at the same time as long as the team are doing well, then I can’t complain. I had to bide my time, be patient and I’ve got back in at the moment and I’ve got to try and keep my place.

ON LEVI SUTTON, WHO DEPUTISED FOR HIM…
JC: Levi’s a great lad and has done really well. Every time he’s come into the side, even in last season and in pre-season, he’s done really well when he has stepped in when I’ve picked up an injury.

ON LEE NOVAK’S WINNING GOAL…
JC: He’s been a great addition to the side. He works really hard on and off the ball, closing down, tracking back and he’s got that quality to finish when needed.

ON BOUNCING BACK WITH A WIN…
JC: I feel as though the Blackburn game was unfortunate. It was disappointing but, at the same time, we bounced back on Sunday and picked up a win away from home, especially when it’s a local derby and there’s a lot of pressure on the game and the fans are willing you to do well.

ON THE IRON FANS…
JC: They were great. Throughout the whole game it felt like a home game. They were loud and really pleased with the way we were defending. They were up on their feet clapping and really appreciating it. For me personally, and all the boys, we really appreciate that and were buzzing to get the three points for them.
