Report: Bury 0-1 Iron

2 September 2017

United ran out 1-0 winners thanks to Josh Morris’ 86th minute free-kick, and Lucketti felt the three points were thoroughly deserved.

His provided his reaction to iFollow Iron following the game at Gigg Lane.

ON THE WIN…
CL: It was a tremendous three points, capped by a great finish (by Josh Morris). Everything about it from start to finish, as an away performance, was fantastic and the lads deserve a lot of credit for that. I thought all the back four, and Gilksy, were superb, as they have been from minute one. They have good experience and are good professionals doing their jobs really well, because we know we have firepower in the team that can hurt anybody. That will be the key to our season - keeping it tight at the back and then, when it comes to it, we know we have the firepower in attack that can make a difference. Bury have some very good players and a very good squad, and we knew we’d have to be at our best to get three points.

ON THE GAME ITSELF…
CL: We controlled a lot of possession without creating too many chances in the first half and I felt we bossed the game, but without that killer threat. In the second half, the game opened up a little bit and we looked like we were going to score.

ON MATCH-WINNER JOSH MORRIS…
CL: He’s certainly finding his scoring boots. The lad’s different class. He’s lethal in front of goal. Every time he gets that ball in and around the penalty box we know he can hit the target, and more often than not he can score goals. He is the ultimate professional. He works hard, is low maintenance and very level-headed. He just gets on with his job and last season and this season he’s been producing the goods.

ON THE START UNITED HAVE MADE…
CL: It’s been very good. It’s only a start and we must take it one game at a time, but we’re certainly pleased with how we’ve started. That’s the way we operate. We don’t get carried away. We know we have to do well in every game to get three points because if you don’t perform to your best level there are teams in League One who will punish you.

Celebrations

ON A THIRD STRAIGHT LEAGUE CLEAN SHEET…
CL: It’s going to be the key to our season. It’s important we keep the ball out of the net. Since Gilksy has come in, he’s been a breath of fresh air and different class. Rory McArdle has been a superb pro, Murray Wallace is brilliant and the full-backs were superb. We know you need competition though, and we have Jordan Clarke, Cameron Burgess, Charlie Goode and Lewis Butroid. You need competition and I think it’s driving performances at the moment. Any successful side will tell you they have good competition throughout the squad.

ON DEBUTANT LEE NOVAK AND HOW ANDREW CROFTS HAS SETTLED INTO TRAINING…
CL: Lee comes with a lot of experience, knows the game, scores goals and is strong. He’s a good all-round centre-forward and we’re delighted that we’ve signed him. Both are good lads and they’ve fitted in really well. They’ll have no problem settling in with this group. The players we bring into the club, we do our homework on, and we know they’re the right sort on and off the pitch. We have a very good dressing room.
