The Iron completed a domestic early-season double over Tranmere Rovers with a strike which came barely seconds from the full time whistle.
Doug Fletcher converted a Jack Marriott cross in arguably the best move of the entire game, handing United both the points in a deserved win.
It brought the side to a total of seven points from a possible eight, with four of those won against Tranmere. Scunthorpe were less convincing that their 4-1 victory at Prenton Park barely two weeks earlier, but nonetheless ground out the result to maintain their very strong start to the campaign.
