The Iron got back to winning ways on their travels and kept their third clean sheet of the season, which was a welcome response to conceding five in two.
United had, of course, collected three points out of a possible four in their last two encounters, but five late goals - two against Crewe in the reverse fixtures and three against Mansfield Town - had raised a couple of question marks over the side's ability to see games through.
A complete shut-out for this one was most welcome as Scunthorpe coasted to victory on their travels.
The game also saw a welcome return for Jack Hubbard, who had missed the opening matches of the campaign.
