Defender Conor Townsend was pleased to make his return from a calf injury lay-off in the clash at Rotherham United on Saturday.
The left-back had missed the five previous games, and was full of praise for how first year professional Lewis Butroid dealt with stepping in.
Townsend spoke to iFollow Iron about his return to action, the game at Rotherham and previewed the home clash against Fleetwood Town on Tuesday night.
ON HIS RETURN TO ACTION AND HOW LEWIS BUTROID COPED IN HIS ABSENCE…
CT: I’m feeling alright. The first game back is always one you get very tired after but the calf feels good. Lewis Butroid has done really well. I’ve spoken to him a lot and have been very impressed with how he’s taken it on. He’s a great lad, and a good professional who listens to what people have to say. I think he’ll have a good career in the game if he carries on in that manner.
ON THE LOSS AT ROTHERHAM…
CT: Like the manager said, I felt we performed pretty well and created some good chances. We just need to take them and be a bit more clinical in the games.
ON HITTING THE WOODWORK DURING THAT GAME…
CT: On another day when you’re in a better run of form as a team some of those go in. It’s disappointing but we’re creating chances and just need to take them. The performance levels haven’t been too bad, we can still improve, but we need to get the results and that’s the most important thing.
ON SPIRITS IN THE CHANGING ROOM…
CT: When you lose, you’re downhearted, but the lads came in on Monday morning and everyone was upbeat and ready for the Fleetwood game. It’s good we have a quick turnaround to put things right. Fleetwood and Peterborough (on Saturday) will be tough games, like most are in this division, but it’s a quick turnaround from Saturday and hopefully we can put right what went wrong.
ON WHAT TO EXPECT FROM FLEETWOOD…
CT: They’re a good team and play an exciting brand of football with wing-backs – both have good pace. The front two are in good form too so we know it’ll be tough but if we play our game and the way we can, and up to the standards we set ourselves, hopefully we can get the win.
