Lee Novak on his third goal for the club

18 October 2017

Lee Novak grabbed his third goal of the season in Iron colours as United drew 1-1 with Fleetwood on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old’s first-half strike opened the scoring in what was overall, a dominant Iron performance.

In an exclusive iFollow Iron interview the deadline-day signing discussed the game, the goal and the upcoming Peterborough match on Saturday.

ON HIS THIRD GOAL FOR SCUNTHORPE…

LN: I’ve never lacked confidence and I think that it’s only been a couple of games since my last goal. When it took me a few games to get my first goal I was confident that I would score and luckily enough I did. I got the goal tonight thanks to a great flick by Paddy (Madden).

ON THE PLAYERS AROUND HIM…

LN: Everyone is putting a shift in. Whoever plays in the team has to put a performance on because the squad and competition for places is that good. Me and Paddy are the lucky ones that get to wear that shirt at the minute and hopefully we will do enough to stay in the team.

ON IF THE RESULT WAS FAIR…

LN: I don’t think that it was. Everyone is disappointed that we didn’t take the three points. We were looking comfortable and were unfortunate in the way that we conceded. I thought that we played some great football, cut a good team open and we’re just disappointed to have not seen it out.

ON THE POSITIVES FROM THE GAME…

LN: I don’t think that they really troubled us. They had a few long shots which Gillo (Matt Gilks) dealt with and we were unfortunate to concede. However, we’ve got to move on as the games come thick and fast. Ever since I have come here he’s been magnificent with his saves and clean sheets. He’s been brilliant since day one.

ON HIS CONFIDENCE GOING INTO PETERBOROUGH…

LN: We’ve put on a great performance. No one can argue that and they (Fleetwood Town) probably wouldn’t argue that we were the better team. We can’t dwell on it though as we have a big game on Saturday. We will speak about what we can do better and where we can improve. In the first half we cut them open at will and at times in the second half we did the same. We’ve been solid and therefore we’re disappointed not to get the three points.

ON WHAT TO TAKE FORWARD FROM THE FLEETWOOD RESULT…

LN: We’ve just got to play the way that we did. We shouldn’t change anything but just keep playing the football that the gaffer wants and that the staff are drilling into us. When we play like that I don’t think that many teams can stop us.
