Goals in each half from the striker mean United will progress further in the competition, despite one more group game to play.

After the match, Hopper spoke to iFollow Iron about the victory and his brace.

ON THE 2-1 WIN…
TH:
I’m delighted with the victory, but not so pleased how we went about our business in the first-half. We did what was asked of us in the second-half and we went about the game the right way and got our rewards for that. We always come out onto the pitch wanting to win, especially after losing at the weekend, so it was nice to get a victory. It breeds confidence for the group going into Saturday, which will be another tough game against Wigan.

ON BEATING LOCAL RIVALS GRIMSBY…
TH
: It’s great for the fans. Obviously, there is a bit of a local rivalry in there, no matter what the occasion, so there’s a bit of bragging rights for the fans, which I’m sure they will be delighted with.

ON SCORING TWICE…
TH:
I’m obviously delighted. As a striker you get judged on your goals, so it’s nice to get a couple more. It’s something I want to add more to my game. Hopefully that gives me more confidence to kick on now and hopefully keep going.

"I got more than enough of a touch to claim it was mine. Me and Kevin (van Veen) had a little laugh about that in the dressing room, but it was definitely mine."

ON HIS SECOND GOAL…
TH:
I got more than enough of a touch to claim it was mine. Me and Kevin (van Veen) had a little laugh about that in the dressing room, but it was definitely mine. It was pleasing to get the winner and now we prepare for Saturday.

ON HIS FITNESS…
TH:
It’s probably the fittest I’ve felt. I think it’s starting to show as well so, if I keep getting minutes, I will only improve.

ON THE WIGAN GAME AT THE WEEKEND…
TH:
Yesterday’s win has to help to get a win against Wigan. Winning breeds confidence in the group, so we always go about how we win a game. Saturday will be no different and I’m sure whatever eleven are on the pitch will be hoping to carry on from the second-half performance.
