Not only did he impress defensively in the difficult conditions that the weather produced, but he also got a few chances at the other end of the pitch as well.

The 22-year-old discussed breaking into the team, his performance and the result in an interview with iFollow Iron.

ON THE WAY THE GAME PLAYED OUT…
CB: I think that we had to play the conditions a bit and it was difficult but we dug in and got the result in the end. In weather conditions like that, that’s what it’s all about.

ON THE WEATHER CONDITIONS…
CB: You can’t try and play a certain way when the conditions are like that because mistakes are going to happen. It can be down to certain bounces of the ball and the wind so you need to factor those things in when you’re making decisions on the pitch.

ON HOW TO TACKLE THE CONDITIONS…
CB: It’s just about playing a bit smarter, trying to use a bit of experience and trying to do things the right way. You’ve got to make the right decisions on the ball but off the ball as well. For example, in your covering. You have to be a bit cautious as well, there’s no question about it.

"Nobody wants to be sitting and watching the games, everybody wants to be playing so when you get your chance you’ve got to take it."

ON BREAKING BACK INTO THE FIRST-TEAM…
CB: It’s all about getting the result at the end of the day. It’s up to the gaffer but hopefully I’ve done enough to keep playing. That’s what it’s all about. Nobody wants to be sitting and watching the games, everybody wants to be playing so when you get your chance you’ve got to take it.

ON SEEING HIS NAME ON THE TEAMSHEET…
CB: It’s amazing. All of the lads will tell you that when you haven’t been playing for a couple of games you see a little smile come onto your face when you see your name on the team sheet. You can’t wait to get out there. That’s what it’s all about.

ON HIS GOALSCORING OPPORTUNITIES…
CB: I think I showed that I’m a threat in the pre-season friendlies but pre-season games don’t mean as much as out there. I think that I had a chance on Saturday that I could have put away but hopefully in other games I can get more chances and get a goal for myself.

ON THE GOALS…
CB: We work really hard on set-pieces but it is unfortunate where the ball falls sometimes. Maybe we could have tweaked one or two things in the game, but it’s going to happen in games. I’ve played with Oldham before and (Peter) Clarke and Gazza (Dan Gardner) thrive on set-pieces so we just need to be a bit better in approaching them and doing the right things. We work on that on the training ground and now it’s just a case of putting it right out there.

ON THE CHARACTER SHOWN BY THE TEAM…
CB: It showed massive character to get that result and that’s one thing that we said after the game. Hopefully when we get that promotion that we are all after we can look back at those games and say we dug in there, showed real character and deserved it.
