Duane Holmes netted twice in the Iron’s 3-0 victory over Northampton Town and the winger was delighted with his involvement to help the team get the three points.

The 23-year-old’s brace came in the second half, which positions him as the club’s top scorer in all competitions so far this season with seven to his name.

He talked to iFollow Iron after the game about the win, his goals and much more.

ON THE 3-0 WIN…
DH: We started the game really well. I felt we were all over them in the first 20 minutes and then had a little dip. I think we need to score when we’re on top more. We let them back into the game, but we dominated in the second half. Cameron Burgess’ goal came at a good time. We were really, really good.

ON HIS BRACE…
DH: It’s always nice to score and help the team out. I’ve got to give a lot of credit to Hakeeb (Adelakun) for two great passes, which I couldn’t miss the target from. For my first goal, I would normally go around the goalkeeper and I think he was expecting me to go around so I tried to lift it over him, and thankfully it worked. The second one was a bit more blatant to go around him because he came outside of his box. I couldn’t really miss, all I had to do was put it in.

ON HIS EARLIER EFFORT THAT WAS CLEARED OFF THE LINE…
DH: It was a similar pass from Hakeeb again. I thought if I go around the ‘keeper and get it on target then it is in, but the left-back covered well and came out from nowhere to block it on the line. We had to keep plugging away and the goals ended up coming.

ON HAKEEB ADELAKUN’S THREE ASSISTS…
DH: I thought he was superb. He got three assists and caused a lot of problems. He’s playing at a really high standard recently.

ON HIS SEVEN GOALS THIS SEASON…
DH: I said it at some point last season, that the goals were going to come. I know I can score goals, so it’s just about getting in the right positions and keeping a calm head.

ON WHAT GRAHAM ALEXANDER SAID AT HALF TIME…
DH: He said that we need to turn the screw again. We need to stop starting games well and then letting them back in and being a bit sloppy. We turned the screw and performed well. A few of the boys said after the game, that we could smell that they were waiting for us to do something and we could feel it on the pitch. We wanted to get the job done and we ended up scoring three great goals and keeping another clean sheet.

ON THE NEXT MATCH AWAY AT BRADFORD CITY…
DH: It’s a good league. There are good teams in it, but we’re a good team and we fancy ourselves to beat anyone when we’re doing the stuff right.
