14 November 2017

Central defender Charlie Goode is happy with how he and the rest of the side defended to ensure the Iron beat Northampton 1-0 in an FA Cup first round replay.

Report: Iron v Northampton Town

14 November 2017

The 22-year-old was also pleased that he has helped United record two clean sheets in the last two games, hoping he can keep his place in the starting eleven.

After the game, Goode spoke to iFollow Iron about his spell in the side, the win and the match at the weekend when the Iron play Northampton for the third time in 15 days.

ON THE 1-0 VICTORY…
CG:
I think we came out brightly and Hakeeb (Adelakun) scored a great goal early on. That set us up nicely. I thought we defended really well, as we did against Bristol Rovers. I thought we dominated large spells of the game and we just had to deal with their long set-pieces throughout the match. They are a big team, but we dealt with it well. It was another good 1-0 win.

ON HAKEEB ADELAKUN’S GOAL…
CG:
It was a great goal. When Hakeeb picks up the ball you always feel like something is going to happen. He’s got that bit of quality in him. As soon as he struck it, I knew it was in.

ON PLAYING DONCASTER IN THE NEXT ROUND…
CG:
It’s a special game, as we have seen in the league this year. We took a lot of fans and hopefully we can progress in the competition. We got the Northampton game out of the way and now we can look forward to the Doncaster game in the weeks to come.

ON FACING NORTHAMPTON AGAIN ON SATURDAY…
CG:
We will be playing them three times in a matter of two-and-a-half weeks and it’s quite rare that happens. We will focus on it like we do any other game and hopefully get another good result. They made changes from when we played them a couple of weeks ago, so I think they will do that again. We will look at their strengths and weaknesses again and hopefully go and get another good result.

📹 iFollow: Charlie Goode on getting through and another clean sheet

14 November 2017

ON STARTING THE LAST TWO GAMES…
CG:
I love playing and I want to play as much as possible. Playing in two games very quickly is good for me, especially with the two clean sheets. Hopefully I can stay in the team for a long time now.

ON KEEPING HIS PLACE IN THE SIDE…
CG:
My job was to give the manager a bit of a decision to make, so hopefully I have done that. It was hard sitting out, especially after I picked up an injury at the end of last season and then I worked ever so hard to get myself back fit. It’s been a hard opening few months to the season, but now I feel good and I’m ready to play a part in the season.
