The former Fulham centre-back opened the scoring with a close-range effort before Duane Holmes struck two more goals to seal a fourth League One win in a row.

It was also Scunthorpe’s fourth consecutive clean sheet in all competitions, and Burgess told iFollow Iron how he is looking to build on this when fourth-placed Scunthorpe visit third-placed Bradford City on Tuesday evening.

ON THE WIN AND HIS GOAL…
CB:
It’s good to score three goals as a team and keep a clean sheet, and it was good to get a goal myself. All-round it was very good. (The goal) is the monkey off my back now! It’s been coming for a little while, I’ve had a couple of chances but it was good to get that one in the back of the net.

ON THE DEFENCE CONTRIBUTING WITH GOALS…
CB:
There are a few of us at the back who can go up and grab a few goals – Rory McArdle, Charlie Goode and Murray Wallace too. A bit of healthy competition can’t go amiss. Hopefully there are more goals to come.

ON THE COMPREHENSIVE SCORELINE AT THE WEEKEND…
CB:
Sometimes when you’re 1-0 up you have to defend first and that’s what you spend your last 10-15 minutes of the game focusing on. However, when you go two or three in front it does make things a lot easier. You still have to do the right things because if they get a goal they come back into it, but it makes things more comfortable that’s for sure.

ON BRADFORD CITY AWAY THIS TUESDAY…
CB:
If we get a win there we can go above them, and I’m sure they’ll be really motivated to try and stay ahead. It will be a really good game on Tuesday night, with a big crowd as well. It will be an interesting one. They’ve shown they’re a force the last couple of seasons, and this year is no different. We need to be at the top of our game to get a result.

ON FOUR CONSECUTIVE CLEAN SHEETS IN ALL COMPETITIONS…
CB:
Every defence wants to do the same thing. We’re all delighted to be playing a part in it.
