REMAIN IN CONTROL OF WHAT WE CAN DO

21 March 2017

Though disappointed to lose 2-1 in the last minute at Oxford, Iron winger Josh Morris says there is still a lot of football to play.

Paddy Madden’s first-half finish meant the North Lincolnshire side went into the break with the lead, but a goal soon after from John Lundstram put the game back in the balance.

Then, with a point apiece looking likely, the U’s snatched it as Curtis Nelson fired in from a corner with only a minute of additional time left to play.

Despite the late defeat being hard to take, Morris wanted to remain positive and he says there are still plenty of twists to come before the end of the season.

He told The Iron PlayerHD: “There’s still a lot of football left to play, and there are still plenty of twists and turns to come.

“We’ve got to remain in control of what we can do and make sure we perform better than we did on Saturday.

“I thought in the first half we controlled it. It was a scrappy game with lots of bouncing balls, but I thought we were comfortable.

“It’s disappointing to lose. In the second half we had a few chances and could have killed it off. It was a dubious last goal but it’s up to us to put in a better performance throughout the game.”

The Iron’s top scorer so far this season had missed the previous two games with a foot injury, but was pleased to get through 90 minutes with no relapse of the same injury.

“I had a few stitches in my foot and they’ve all cleared up now. It’s still a bit sore but it was great to get back out there,” he said.

Having played a lot of Tuesday-Saturday games in the past few weeks, with no game this midweek, it means the team can rest and prepare properly ready for Sunday’s match with Bradford City in front of the Sky TV cameras.

“We’ve had a lot of games in the last three or four weeks, but it’s up to us to rest up and put in a performance that gets us the result next week,” he concluded.
