LOAN WATCH

21 March 2017

Taking a look at the players currently on loan away from Glanford Park…

In this edition of Loan Watch, we’ll continue to round up the fortunes of the Scunthorpe players who are plying their trade away from the club.

Our round-up begins with midfielder Luke Williams, who has made two more starts for Northampton Town. The Cobblers built on their back-to-back wins against Charlton Athletic and AFC Wimbledon with another over Port Vale. Williams completed 83 minutes in the triumph over the Valiants, and 90 in Northampton’s most recent encounter at Bolton Wanderers, in which they were edged out 2-1.

Scott Laird made it five successive starts for Walsall in their games against Fleetwood Town and Southend United, but he couldn’t prevent the Saddlers slipping to successive defeats.

In Sky Bet League Two, Kyle Wootton’s Cheltenham Town have suffered defeats in their two most recent outings, against Exeter City and Cambridge United respectively. Wootton started in the clash with the Grecians, and was replaced on 69 minutes. The Scunthorpe academy graduate couldn’t manage to find an equaliser for his side in their fixture with the U’s, after being introduced 25 minutes from time.

Dom Vose and Grimsby Town had to settle for a point after taking the lead against Crawley Town at Blundell Park on Saturday. The hosts got themselves ahead in the 22nd minute when Sam Jones finished after the Crawley defence failed to deal with a cross. The Red Devils hit back on the stroke of half-time though, as James Collins levelled the scores.

Ashton United’s Jack Dyche was once again instrumental in the Robins’ 1-0 triumph over Matlock Town at Hurst Cross. Dyche started and completed 86 minutes in the victory, whilst going close to getting on the scoresheet himself, before Matty Chadwick scored what proved to be the only goal of the game just after the interval.

Noel Burdett played over an hour for Frickley Athletic in their home encounter with Halesowen Town on Saturday, but the Blues were narrowly defeated 1-0 by the Yeltz.

In the National League, Rory Watson’s North Ferriby slipped to a 4-1 home loss at the hands of Solihull Moors. Heroics from Watson couldn’t prevent Solihull taking the lead in the 40th minute, with the 21-year-old tipping Omari Sterling-James’ effort onto the post, only for Simeon Maye to tuck home the rebound.

Jonathon Margetts didn’t feature for Lincoln City in their Buildbase FA Trophy semi-final encounter against York City. Trailing 2-1 on aggregate from the first leg, the Imps forced extra-time, but Scott Fenwick’s 105th minute penalty secured the visitors’ passage through to the final which will be held at Wembley.
