CLARKE VERY PLEASED TO BE BACK IN ACTION

7 March 2017

Defender Jordan Clarke is delighted to be back in the reckoning following his recent return from a hamstring injury.

Clarke made his competitive United comeback in last week’s home fixture against AFC Wimbledon, and he’s now fully focused on kicking on for the remaining 11 games of the campaign.

Speaking to The Iron PlayerHD, Clarke said: “I’m of course very pleased.

“All I want to do is play football. I didn’t want to have to come out in the first place, but these things happen.

“It’s a little frustrating because now I have to get match-fit again. However, I’m very pleased to be back in the side.”

The full-back will be hoping to make it three successive starts in Tuesday night’s trip to Charlton Athletic.

Previewing that game at the Valley, Clarke believes it’s important to get off to a fast-paced start and really set the tone.

“They’re a very good side, they have a lot of quality throughout the team,” he explained.

“If we go into this game with the same performance level (as against Fleetwood Town), the same intensity, then I think they might be a little bit shocked.

“The positive play has been drilled into us since the start of the season, but it has been reinforced now, because that’s where we need to be and that’s where we need to get back to.”

Despite defeat last time out at the hands of Fleetwood Town, Clarke wants to build on the many encouraging signs which were evident in the clash with the Cod Army.

“A positive we can take is that the last performance was better than previously, and we need to build on that,” stated Clarke.

“We need to keep a clean sheet at the back, and we need to take our chances, because we created a lot more on Saturday.

“We’ve got to take the positives and move forward.

“If we just keep going on that form and take the confidence from that game, then I’m sure the results will come.”
