The Iron players will be back in the building on Tuesday, June 27th as preparations get underway for the 2017-18 season.
Just short of a week since the fixtures for the new campaign were released, it is full steam ahead for Graham Alexander and his team as intense pre-season work gets underway.
The coaching staff returned to the club on Monday in preparation for the players returning to Glanford Park on the Tuesday. The side will then have six weeks to prepare for the big kick-off in Sky Bet League One on Saturday, August 5th.
United will kick off their pre-season friendlies on Saturday, July 8th with a trip to North Ferriby United before visiting York City four days later. The side will then spend a week in Austria, playing two games, before facing Sunderland at Glanford Park on July 26th and Luton Town at Kenilworth Road on Saturday, July 29th.
Manager Graham Alexander took time to speak ahead of the start of pre-season.
ON THE PLAYERS AND STAFF RETURNING...
GA: The players will be back in the building the week commencing June 26th. We will be straight into the hard work. I've spoken to each player individually and they understand that. They know their responsibilities to look after themselves over the summer while having a good break - which they deserve, as they worked exceptionally hard last season. However, they have to be ready to go when they come back.
ON THE PRE-SEASON SCHEDULE...
GA: Pre-season gets brought forward a little bit because the season starts slightly earlier and we have to get the right time into the players so we make sure that they are ready for the big kick-off. It's a competitive business and we're looking to compete from day one of pre-season.
