Madden looking forward to return following fixture release

21 June 2017

Iron striker Paddy Madden is looking forward to getting back to work next week following the release of the fixtures for the 2017-18 season.

United kick-off with a home game against AFC Wimbledon on Saturday, 5th August (3.00pm), and end their campaign with a home clash against Bradford City on Saturday, 5th May (5.30pm).

ON STARTING THE CAMPAIGN AT HOME...

PM: It's obviously good to start at home. It gives the fans more reason to be excited when you begin the season at home. It will be a tough game, as the first game of the season always is. Teams and players want to make an impression on the league, so we'll look forward to welcoming AFC Wimbledon to Glanford Park when that comes round.

ON THE FIXTURES HE LOOKS OUT FOR...

PM: Living in Doncaster and it being a local derby for Scunthorpe, that's one of the fixtures I look for. The away game against them isn't too far away either and that should be a tasty tie as well. This season, I looked out for the Bury game as I'm looking forward to going against one of my best mates in Ste (Stephen Dawson).

ON THE NEW CAMPAIGN...

PM: It's that stage of the summer now where everyone starts to get excited. It's about working hard in pre-season, getting it out of the way and kicking off the season to put things right from last year. Obviously we need our break, both mentally and physically, but then I start missing the football and want to get back. I'm looking forward to getting back in the building and getting training underway.

ON THE NEW SIGNINGS...

PM: We lost a bit of experience out of the squad and have a very young squad, but the gaffer has brought in a bit of experience in Matt Gilks, who is a very good 'keeper. I remember playing against Cameron Burgess last season and he's a very good young player. They're two exciting signings and I'm sure there'll be one or two more. I can't wait to get back in and meet them.
