Wallace: You start to miss it

6 July 2017

Central defender Murray Wallace has reacted to his first week back pre-season training with United.

Though he’s enjoyed a good rest this summer, the 24-year-old is looking to build on an impressive first full season in claret and blue.

Speaking to iFollow Iron, he also welcomes the competition new centre-back additions Rory McArdle and Cameron Burgess will bring to the squad.

ON RETURNING FOR TRAINING…
MW: It’s nice to be back in. You start to miss it and are itching to get back. It’s been quite tough, as expected. Lots of running, but ball work too. There’s no way around it, you need to put in the hard work to get you prepared for the season, so you go into it flying.

ON THE NEW ADDITIONS…
MW: We have a couple of new faces (McArdle and Burgess in central defence) and they’re settling in fine. They’ve looked after themselves over the summer and are doing well. We have the experience in Matt Gilks (new goalkeeper) and Rory, and I think they will be a couple of great signings for us.

ON THE FRIENDLIES AHEAD…
MW: We were just concentrating on getting our fitness early on. This week has seen us think about tactics and the manager will be looking at what sort of team to put out. It will be exciting when the games come along.

ON PROBABLY NOT PLAYING THE FULL GAME AT NORTH FERRIBY…
MW: It’s important to manage it early on, you don’t want to go straight into a full 90 minutes after a week of tough training. We are working really hard and may go into the friendly games slightly tired, but that kind of work sets you up for the season, when you have Tuesday-Saturdays.
