Lucketti: The most important part of the season

17 July 2017

Assistant manager Chris Lucketti feels pre-season training is the most important part of the year for footballers.

United’s squad are presently training hard on tour in Austria, as they gear up for the start of the new League One campaign, which begins two weeks on Saturday when Scunthorpe play a home clash against AFC Wimbledon.

Speaking two days into the pre-season training camp, Lucketti told iFollow Iron the players are in great shape - having now been back with the club for three weeks.

ON HOW THE CAMP HAS GONE SO FAR…
CL: It’s been great and the lads have worked really hard, as they’re supposed to. They’ve approached it in the right way and we’ve got some really good work into them.

ON THE IMPORTANCE OF IT…
CL: It’s pre-season, and part and parcel of being a footballer. It’s the most important part of the season for me. It’s important you get the base work into the lads. We’re pushing them physically and mentally, because during the course of the season you will be asked questions in those regards. Over here is the perfect place to work on that.

ON THE FACILITIES…
CL: It’s got everything you need. it’s a real working environment, the facilities are first class and the pitches are good. We’re delighted with it.

ON HIS FIRST YEAR AT THE IRON…
CL: I’ve loved it. We’ve had a lot of success on the pitch, and that’s what I came here for. We’re going to carry it on this season.
