Injury-free and fighting for a place

11 July 2017

Charlie Goode says that he has recovered from the ankle injury that he sustained last season.

In an interview with iFollow Iron, the central defender said that after spending the summer recovering from last season's injury he is relishing his opportunities for game time.

Wednesday's pre-season friendly at York City represents a great chance for him to get even more game time under his belt.

ON THE PRE-SEASON...
CG: I've been out for quite a while so it's been a tough opening two weeks but that's what pre-season is about. You've just got to get through it and see what it gives you when the season starts.

ON HIS BREAK...
CG: It was a busy summer. A lot of times over the summer I've been in working on my fitness and getting myself moving again so I've had a bit of a catch-up because the boys keep themselves naturally fit anyway. I was out for a long period and now I'm back in with the lads and looking forward to how the rest of the pre-season goes.

ON HIS FITNESS...
CG: It's been hard but that's what pre-season is all about. You've just got to keep getting through it and it'll help you in the long run.

ON GAME TIME AGAINST NORTH FERRIBY...
CG: It was my first 45 minutes in about three or four months now so it felt different being back out there again and it felt good. I'm looking forward to another game on Wednesday.

ON THE CLEAN SHEET...
CG: Obviously as a defender you want to keep clean sheets going into all games and that was a good start and hopefully we can continue that.

ON NEW DEFENSIVE PARTNERS...
CG: All of the new lads that have come in (Rory McArdle, Cameron Burgess and Matt Gilks) have settled into the group really well. I've been working with Cam and Rory a lot, being defenders. I felt comfortable playing alongside Cam and I look forward to doing it more times.

ON UPCOMING FIXTURES...
CG: Pre-season is all about getting minutes into your legs. It'll be another tough game fitness-wise at York and hopefully we can get another positive result. At this time you just want to get back into the swing of things, keep yourself ticking over fitness-wise and there's nothing better than match fitness.

ON THE TRIP TO AUSTRIA...
CG: Austria was hard last year and I think it's going to be quite similar this year, but I believe the way we started at the beginning of last season shows that it helped us a lot. It'll be a tough week but I'm sure that it will help us.

ON THE TEAM'S BOND...
CG: You're with each other 24/7 for seven days so you're obviously going to get to know people that you didn't know too well before. Team bonding is massively important and togetherness in the group. It'll be a tough week but I'm sure that we will enjoy it as well.

ON HIS COMPETITION...
CG: Obviously competition is healthy. If there were only two or three then I think that you wouldn't be that worried about your position. It's certainly more healthy to push you even more and it's certainly doing that for me.
