Following his loan move from Rangers until the end of the season, Matt Crooks states the prospect of playing regular football once again excites him.Crooks moved to Ibrox last summer, but injuries have restricted his game time. However, his focus now is on making appearances on a consistent basis.
Speaking to The Iron PlayerHD, Crooks said: “I’m buzzing to be here.
“I just can’t wait to get started now. There’s nothing like playing games, and that’s what I’ve come here to do.
“It’s been very stop-start (at Rangers). I was injured for all of pre-season and the start of the campaign, so I’ve not played much football.
“That’s what I’ve come here to do, to get some games under my belt again.”
The 22-year-old says the chance to join a high-flying Iron side was simply too good to turn down, and he explained he’s relishing the opportunity to cut his teeth in League One.
“They’ve been doing so well in League One, and I was in League Two last year,” he stated.
“I thought this is the next step up for me from being at that level. I want to test myself at the next level, which is here.”
A midfielder by trade, the former Accrington man revealed he’s capable of playing in defence, but declared he predominantly plays most of his football in the centre of the park.
“I’m an athletic midfielder that likes to get about the pitch and get forward, as well as trying to do a defensive job for the team,” he declared
“I sometimes get put as a centre half, but I’ve not done that in a while, so I probably see myself as a central midfielder now.”
Crooks says settling in at the club has been no problem at all, while revealing that he’s already familiar with one or two of the current squad.
“I know Murray (Wallace) and Duane (Holmes) from my time at Huddersfield,” he revealed.
“Duane is one of my best friends outside of football, so it’s been pretty easy to settle in. It always helps, especially with Duane, he’s a character.”
