DISAPPOINTED, BUT THE RIGHT DECISION

21 January 2017

Iron manager Graham Alexander has provided his reaction to the postponement of the away match at Charlton Athletic.

The game was called off following a 10am Saturday morning pitch inspection by referee Dean Whitestone, due to a frozen pitch at the Valley.

"We're obviously disappointed," Alexander told Scunthorpe-United.co.uk.

"We travelled down on Friday knowing there could be a doubt (due to the weather forecast) but we had to travel and prepare as if it would be on.

"I came down to the Valley on Friday night to have a look at the pitch, it was playable and the covers were on.

"Overnight, it's deteriorated though. I spoke to the referee this morning when he had the inspection at 10am, and it was the right decision for him to make with him looking at the pitch this morning, and also with the information we were getting.

"Being the away team there was nothing more we could do, and we have to accept it.

"I'm disappointed for all the supporters who had travelled down, or who were on their way.

"The players' focus is now on the home game against Port Vale next Saturday."
