After a two week break, the Iron are back in Sky Bet League One action this Saturday, when they welcome Port Vale to Glanford Park.
United’s encounter with Charlton Athletic last weekend didn’t go ahead due a frozen pitch at the Valley, meaning it’ll be a fortnight since Graham Alexander’s men have contested a competitive clash.The Valiants' game against Bury last weekend did beat the weather, as Michael Brown’s side drew 2-2 on home turf.
After seeing David Mirfin, Conor Townsend and Jamie Ness feature in Tuesday’s behind-closed-doors fixture with Leeds Under-23s, Alexander says he’ll assess all three’s fitness levels ahead of the match.
Townsend completed almost 60 minutes, with Ness and Mirfin coming through 75, but Alexander sees no benefit in rushing them back into the team.
Alex Jones scored twice as the Iron slipped to a 3-1 defeat against Saturday’s opponents at Vale Park back in August.
Anton Forrester opened the scoring for the hosts on 33 minutes, as he slotted the ball neatly past Luke Daniels and into the far corner.
Josh Morris did level for Scunthorpe on the stroke of half time however, with the winger curling home from a tight angle.
Jones restored Vale’s lead four minutes after the break though - volleying home Jerome Thomas’ cross in clinical fashion, before dispatching Sam Foley’s throughball with six minutes left on the clock.

Striker Tyler Walker certainly made an instant impact on his Port Vale debut last weekend - scoring and contributing an assist after arriving from Nottingham Forest on loan until the end of the campaign.
A quick and mobile forward, the 20-year-old has also spent time on loan at Burton Albion and Stevenage respectively.
