BACK IN FRONT OF OUR HOME FANS

1 January 2017

Defender Charlie Goode was disappointed to see his side suffer late heartache at the Macron Stadium on Saturday, as Bolton Wanderers edged past the Iron 2-1.

Josh Vela’s hit from 20-yards-out in the first period had given the home side the lead, before Neal Bishop's equaliser for the away side in the second half.

Just as both teams looked to have earned a point, the late suckerpunch came in the form of a deflected James Henry effort, sending United home without anything for their efforts.

“We’re all gutted in there to lose in the 94th minute,” Goode told The Iron PlayerHD.

“In the second half we’ve dominated, and cut them down to very few chances - it’s just very unfortunate to lose the way we did.”

“We will look back especially at the first goal because it’s a ball straight down the middle. We always look at every goal we concede to do better," he added.

“The second has taken a deflection of Muzza (Murray Wallace) and it has somehow scraped into the bottom corner, so it hasn’t been our day – but performance wise we can take a lot away from it.”

The youngster had been composed and confident throughout the game, but despite a decent personal performance, Goode wanted to keep his priority on the result.

“The result is my priority. I want to keep clean sheets, and I want to do well, but I will focus on the team, and anything I do well that’s a bonus," he stated.

Following the conclusion of the game, the Iron only had less than 48 hours until the next match, which is a home encounter with Peterborough United.

Goode claims the players will be doing all they can to bounce back immediately.

“We’ve got a game in 48 hours, and we always recover well from losses when we have this season, which hasn’t been many times," he said.

“We are back at home in front of our own fans, and we will look to go out and beat Peterborough.

“We’ve had a tough month really, fixtures wise. Every game is tough, but we are confident and we will keep going as we are and focus on each game that comes. I’m sure we will do alright.”
