ALEXANDER ON CROOKS ADDITION

12 January 2017

Iron manager Graham Alexander believes Rangers loanee Matt Crooks can add real competition to the midfield positions.

The 22-year-old former Accrington midfielder signed on loan on Thursday, subject to international clearance, and will hope to make his debut for United away at Northampton on Saturday.

"Matt's a talented midfield player who was at Accrington previously before making the move to Rangers," Alexander told The Iron PlayerHD.

"He's a lad whose career has stuttered a little bit at Rangers, mainly due to an injury he picked up but has since put behind him.

"He is desperate to play football and we wanted to improve the squad after losing Richie Smallwood and wanted to fill that gap in the squad. We think Matt will fill that very well.

"He's a talented lad and knows a couple of the boys already, having been at Huddersfield with Duane Holmes and Murray Wallace. We're delighted to have him on board.

"I'm sure he will do good things for us. He's coming into a group of other good players and I think he will enjoy his time with us.

"He was used to playing week-in, week-out at Accrington and he's gone to Rangers where the appearances have been few and far between. He just wants to get back playing now.

"It's down to him now to put the work in to get in the team and stay in it."
