SUTTON WANTS TO REPAY ALEXANDER'S FAITH

17 February 2017

Scunthorpe full-back Levi Sutton is confident the Iron can come away from Saturday’s clash against Sheffield United with a positive result.

Sutton and his team-mates will be backed by a strong away following at Bramall Lane, and the 20-year-old says it’s important to deliver an impressive showing for them.

Speaking to The Iron PlayerHD, Sutton said: “It’s first versus second in the table.

“With the amount of fans we’re taking there, we don’t want to let anyone down - especially ourselves.

“I feel we can get some points on the road, and build on the point we got here the other day.

“We’re of course far away from the end of the season, and a lot of things can happen.

“If we do manage to do get the three points though it would be massive, and we would make ground on them.”

The academy graduate expressed his elation at making two successive league starts, in games against Shrewsbury Town and Walsall respectively.

Sutton featured at right-back in both matches, and thanked manager Graham Alexander for giving him his opportunity once more - following on from his previous league start at Chesterfield earlier on in the campaign.

“I’m enjoying playing,” he explained.

“The gaffer has shown a bit of faith in me to play me there (at right-back), and I just work my hardest when I get my chance.

“I’m still learning - I’ve not played in this position for long. Hopefully I can play a few more games there, and learn a bit more."

Sutton revealed he’s improving constantly, which he explained is a testament to the quality of players in the squad.

He hopes, in time, the experience of David Mirfin and the other defenders will continue to enhance his game further.

Sutton stated: “Mirf (David Mirfin) is a great professional, and playing alongside him is great for me because he speaks to me throughout, as well as helping me.

“Those two (Jordan Clarke and Scott Wiseman) are also great people to learn off, and all the learning will help me become a better player.”
