LOAN WATCH

28 February 2017

Taking a look at the players currently on loan away from Glanford Park…

In this edition of Loan Watch, we’ll continue to round up the fortunes of the seven Scunthorpe players who are plying their trade away from the club.

Since our last review, striker Kyle Wootton has doubled his tally for Cheltenham, and he did it in some style too. The 20-year-old showed fantastic technique to acrobatically score in the Robins’ 2-1 defeat against Stevenage recently. Wootton also had a significant impact in Cheltenham’s 2-0 success over Yeovil Town, as he won a spot kick for his side in the second period.

Rory Watson’s North Ferriby United lifted themselves off the bottom of the National League table on Saturday with a crucial 2-1 away victory at Guiseley. The ‘keeper’s heroics in the Villagers’ encounter with Dover Athletic couldn’t prevent a narrow loss by the same scoreline however, despite Watson saving a Ricky Miller penalty early on.

The returning Jack Dyche made an instant impact for Ashton United in their encounter with Rushall Olympic. Dyche gave Ashton the lead in the opening period, as he swept the ball past Jose Veiga, but the Pics hit back in the second half to earn a share of the spoils.

Full-back Scott Laird was a second-half substitute for Walsall in their most recent fixture, but he couldn’t prevent the Saddlers slipping to a 1-0 away defeat against AFC Wimbledon at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.

Academy graduate Noel Burdett has returned to Frickley Athletic for the remainder of the campaign. Burdett’s spell at Gainsborough Trinity was brought to an end last week, and he’ll now link up with the Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division side for the second time this season.

Elsewhere, Luke Williams is stepping up his recovery from a knee injury which has seen him miss the Cobblers’ last four outings.

Grimsby Town’s Dom Vose is also nursing a knock of his own, with the midfielder sustaining a recurrence of a thigh tear.

United players out on loan:
Luke Williams - Northampton Town (until the end of the season)
Scott Laird - Walsall (until the end of the season)
Kyle Wootton - Cheltenham Town (until the end of the season)
Dom Vose - Grimsby Town (until the end of the season)
Noel Burdett - Frickley Athletic (until the end of the season)
Jack Dyche - Ashton United (until the end of the season)
Rory Watson - North Ferriby United (until the end of the season)
