BIG MATCH PREVIEW: IRON v WALSALL

14 February 2017

The Iron take on Walsall at Glanford Park on Tuesday night, as they look for a response to Saturday’s narrow defeat against Shrewsbury Town.

Last weekend’s loss was Scunthorpe’s first on home soil in well over a year, and Graham Alexander’s side will be itching to return to winning ways in the encounter with the Saddlers.

Nevertheless, Jon Whitney’s men also come into the fixture looking to bounce back - following a 4-1 reverse at the hands of Bolton Wanderers in their most recent outing.

Alexander revealed everyone in the squad came through Saturday’s match unscathed, and added there are no fresh injury concerns ahead of Tuesday’s encounter.

Matt Crooks missed the game at the weekend through illness, while Jordan Clarke (hamstring) and Sam Mantom (groin) are set to continue to miss out as they recover from their respective injuries.

A marvellous individual display from Josh Morris grabbed the headlines, as United romped to a 4-1 away victory over Walsall in September.

Liam Kinsella’s handball on 11 minutes handed Morris the opportunity to get the scoring underway from the spot and he duly obliged, slotting home with ease.

There was barely time for the travelling section of Scunthorpe supporters to finish their celebrations when Morris struck again, two minutes later, as he followed up Tom Hopper’s initial effort.

Walsall halved the deficit before half time, with Erhun Oztumer producing a neat finish from 18 yards.

Simeon Jackson then had the chance to level almost immediately, but some Luke Daniels heroics preserved the Iron’s lead.

The hosts would be made to pay for that miss as, two minutes into the second half, Neal Bishop drilled the ball home, ahead of Morris completing his hat-trick with a superb curling strike late on.
