ALEXANDER RECEIVES JANUARY MANAGER OF THE MONTH NOMINATION

8 February 2017

Iron manager Graham Alexander has been nominated for the Sky Bet League One manager of the month accolade for January.

It’s the United boss’ fourth nomination of the campaign after being included in the shortlist for August and October and emerging victorious in November. It’s his fifth nomination overall since taking charge of the club last March after also scooping the award in April of last season.

The nomination comes following an undefeated string of four league games throughout the month, which included three hard-fought victories.

Also nominated are Robbie Nielsen of Milton Keynes Dons, Fleetwood Town’s Uwe Rosler and the manager of Scunthorpe’s next league opponents; Paul Hurst of Shrewsbury Town.

The judging panel comprises Sky Sports’ EFL expert Don Goodman; League Managers’ Association Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery.

Here's what they had to say about each manager:

Graham Alexander (Scunthorpe United)
A difficult December turned into a resurgent and entertaining January. Alexander guided his team to a 10-paul haul from four unbeaten games, including 3-2 wins over Bury and Port Vale as they ended the month back at the top of League One.

Paul Hurst (Shrewsbury Town)
He’s built strong defensive foundations since arriving in late October and reduced a torrent of goals against to a trickle in January. Five games brought eight points and only three goals conceded as Shrewsbury moved out of the relegation zone.

Robbie Nielson (Milton Keynes Dons)
Since arriving from Hearts, he has lifted the intensity in training. The improvement in fitness allowed him to play the high pressing style he favours in January to gain seven points from three games and back-to-back 5-3 and 4-0 wins respectively.

Uwe Rosler (Fleetwood Town)
A 2-0 victory at leaders and promotion rivals Sheffield United was the highpoint of a month which didn’t have any lows for Rosler’s side. As impressive as their play is the consistency he has inspired which brought 13 points from five games.
