The wing-back also scored Scunthorpe’s second goal of the match and knows they have to build on this result going into the Christmas and New Year period.

After the victory, he spoke to iFollow Iron about the result, his strike and how he felt on returning to the starting eleven.

ON THE 3-1 VICTORY OVER SOUTHEND…
CT: We worked hard all week in training and the performance showed what we are capable of. To go in 1-1 at half time was a bit disappointing with the way we played and the chances we created. Their goal felt slightly lucky on their behalf, but we dug in and got the result.

ON HIS GOAL…
CT: It was nice to get a goal. They were very slow getting into the box and Hakeeb Adelakun’s taken the corner quickly and put into a massive hole. I didn’t hit it that clean but they are the ones that seem to go in. The main thing was that we got the win, which got us back on track.

ON THE CHANCES BEING CREATED BY THE IRON…
CT: We took our chances when we had them in the second half. In the first half, we created three or four golden opportunities. They made a couple of really good saves and couple of last ditch tackles that kept them in it. In the second half, we got the two goals I think we deserved. As a team, we were looking dangerous going forward and played some really good football. The front two had quite a few chances and were a bit unlucky not to score more.

ON RETURNING TO THE SIDE…
CT: I’m happy to be back in the side. It was disappointing being injured. When my form started to pick up, I got injured, came back and was injured again. That was frustrating, but I have had four or five weeks of solid training and a couple of games. Hopefully that will be behind me now.

ON PLAYING IN A LEFT-WING BACK ROLE…
CT: Physically, it is a little bit tougher getting up and down. I like the position and can get forward to try and affect the game.

ON SOUTHEND UNITED…
CT: They were a good team and have got some good players. This league is very tough. You can have a really good team and struggle to pick up results, it’s just the nature of the league. I think they will be up there come the end of the season.

ON THE FESTIVE PERIOD…
CT: It’s a busy time over Christmas and New Year – it is our busiest time of the year. The more games the better for me and I want to get my fitness back up to where I was at. This win has got us out of a little sticky patch and hopefully we can build on it into the next three or four games.
