Tom Hopper was the first scorer in the Boxing Day win over Blackpool.
His goal and others from Duane Holmes and Hakeeb Adelakun all helped to guide the Iron to their first away win over the Seasiders since 2000.
The 24-year-old discussed the goals, beating the Seasiders and his season so far in an interview with iFollow Iron.
ON FINALLY WINNING AT BLACKPOOL…
TH: Someone mentioned it on the bus and it’s not a nice record to have. The fans probably thought that it would be another one of those on the day, but we used it as motivation. It helped us to kick on and we’re really pleased to have put a win for Scunthorpe on that record.
ON HIS GOAL…
TH: It was nice. It was exactly the start that we wanted. I was very pleased with the connection that I made and so for it to go in was great. It was followed by a goal from Duane (Holmes) which was fantastic.
ON THE TIMING OF THE THREE GOALS…
TH: They are the foundation that we need to build on. It would be great if we could carry on getting into those positions and avoid conceding them at the other end as we are disappointed with the goals that we have conceded. However, we’re pleased with the final result.
ON HOW CONFIDENT HE WAS OF MAINTAINING THE LEAD…
TH: I’m fully confident in the team. Everyone puts their bodies on the line in training, never mind the matches. Everyone from the back to the front puts their bodies on the line in blocks so it makes us even more worthy of the win.
ON HOW WORTHWHILE WINNING THE MATCH MAKES THE HARD WORK OVER CHRISTMAS…
TH: It is great for the fans as well. It makes the busy Christmas period worthwhile for us but for the fans to come all of this way and see that performance is great for them. It was a great turnout from them. It’s a long way for them to come.
ON HIS PERFORMANCES OF LATE…
TH: I’m the fittest that I’ve felt in a long time. I’m pleased with how I’m playing. I always say that I need to add more goals into the game and that one on Boxing Day helped. Hopefully, I can carry that on and contribute to the team in any way that I can.
ON THE IRON’S TARGETS FOR THE NEW YEAR…
TH: We’re hoping to kick on and have a good second-half of the season as we want to achieve promotion at the end of it. We will keep going from game to game and see where the points take us.
ON THE CONFIDENCE LEVELS OF THE TEAM HEADING INTO THE BLACKBURN GAME…
TH: It will be another tough game so we will have to get stuck into some recovery. There are so many games over this period of the year that it’s tough, so we will do everything that we can to get the three points.
