Conor Townsend wants to get the Iron’s first clean sheet of the season against Oxford United and to make Glanford Park a fortress.
The full-back, who scored in United’s previous league home match against AFC Wimbledon, knows how vital it is to shut out the opponents as soon as possible.
He spoke to iFollow Iron ahead of the weekend’s game against the U’s.
ON THE OXFORD GAME…
CT: We know it’s going to be a tough game, they’ve started well and won the first two games. I think we have done okay, but we’ve done it in halves. We have had maybe one good half and then one not so good half. If we can put a full 90 minutes performance together then hopefully we can get the win. They’re a good team, from last year I thought they were a good team as well. They’ve won the first two games, started well, and have got a new manager, but if we can do what we do I think we’re confident of getting a result.
ON PLAYING AT GLANFORD PARK…
CT: We had a good record at home last year and hopefully we can emulate that this season and make this a fortress, a tough place for teams to come. Hopefully we can get that done.

ON THE DRAW AT ROCHDALE…
CT: Obviously, we would have liked to have won the game, but we’ve got to take the positives out of the game. A point at Rochdale is not a bad result. They were good at home last year and hopefully we can build on that this Saturday.
ON ATTEMPTING TO KEEP THE FIRST CLEAN SHEET…
CT: I think as defenders we talk about it a lot. Last season I think we had nearly 20 clean sheets and that’s something we’re proud of. If we can get the first one on Saturday, hopefully we will win the game.
ON WANTING TO START WELL…
CT: We set ourselves a standard last year of performances and results and that’s something we need to aim for this year. We need to get back to the levels we were at last year.
ON THE SUBSTITUTES' IMPACT…
CT: Duane has come on the last couple of games and done brilliantly. It’s tough when you are told you are not starting. I think all the lads that have been told, their attitudes have been first class and you can see that when Duane came on. He came on and changed the game in both matches. It’s good to see that the lads are not taking it too badly and getting their head down and working hard.
