Madden makes history

27 August 2017

Paddy Madden entered the top ten all-time scorers for Scunthorpe in their 4-0 win at Home Park against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday.

The Irishman netted twice either side of half-time and is happy that he has broken into an illustrious list of United frontmen, but wants to keep going and score more for the club.

After the fantastic victory, Madden spoke to iFollow Iron about that achievement and the game.

ON THE 4-0 WIN…
PM: It’s a great win. Plymouth are a very good side, always a tough place to go, but it shows the quality we have in the squad to come here and win 4-0. It was end-to-end stuff at the beginning and thankfully Josh put a great ball in and I’ve managed to tuck it away. It changed the game a little bit.

ON ENTERING THE TOP TEN SCORERS…
PM: It’s a massive confidence boost and individual award for all the goals I’ve scored for Scunny. It’s nice to break into the top ten, I will keep going and hopefully get that number one spot one day.

ON SCORING HIS FIRST LEAGUE GOALS…
PM: That’s probably the kind of goal that I needed to get me on my way. The ‘keeper has obviously made a good save and I’ve managed to bundle it in. Usually goals like that set you off on a run and hopefully it’s the start of a run.

ON THE DEFENCE…
PM: A clean sheet is always a good confidence boost for the squad. Matt Gilks, the back four, midfield and myself and Tom Hopper worked well and I don’t think they looked like scoring at all, so that’s nice. It’s always a confidence boost for us as strikers looking back and your defenders are throwing their body on the line. That’s the sort of hunger and desire we need if we’re going to get promoted.

ON THE TRAVELLING FANS…
PM: We know ourselves how long it took yesterday to get down. We thank the fans for coming out in their numbers and it’s a great turnout for such a long trip. They got us going and they’ve helped us get the victory as well.
